Here's the 2nd draft of my work samples sheet. Any suggestions or tips to make it better are always welcomed and appreciated.
Sidenote: The image on the lower left corner is the mural i was working on at school. it is located in the 'activity room' inside the Westwood College South Bay campus.

Ok, I'm Back.
I haven't updated my blog in a while for several reason, but none you'd care to hear about. With that said, I will get started on some new models and show you my progress as well as upload some photos of a recent mural I "finished" at school. Thanks to anyone reading this for taking the time to check out my work.

Merick: Z-Brush [UPDATE]
After getting some feed back on the character we have made a few changes to the sculpt. I actually had to start the sculpt over again because of some issues I had with the 2nd version of the sculpt. So yes, I have sculpted the same character 3 times now. Hopefully this latest version is the best so far. No done with it yet, but getting there.

Character "Merick": Z-Brush Color [UPDATE]
Character "Merick": Z-Brush Color x Sketch
I guess I shall start this post by announcing that we have decided to change the name of our character from "Nero" to "Merick". I main reason being that one of our classmates already had a character named Nero.
The two images above are of our character Merick with some simple colorizing done in Z-Brush. The second image is a sketch off the character that Eric Griffith did to give me a idea of the look he was going for.

Character "Nero" Z-Brush Sculpt UPDATE

Character "Nero" Z-Brush Sculpt
Character "Nero" [UPDATE]
A few more adjustments have been made to the head of the character. I tried to get rid of the alien look he had going, and make him look more like the Orc x Elf hybrid that he is. Also the renders have shadows this time around. The were supposed to have them for the first render but since I was using the "Maya Software" to render instead of "mental ray" they weren't showing up.

Character "Nero" [UPDATE]
KGA 2 Character Model x Concept Design "Nero"
For my second KGA of the term we have been paired up and will be doing a joint project. Eric Griffith and I will be designing and animating a character. Eric came up with a really cool character named "Nero". I have started modeling the character in Maya 2008. Above is the my first render of the character.

Female Character (Quick Render)
For my next project I am working on a female character. I'm not sure in which direction I am going to go with this, but this is what i have thus far. (had to censor my reference, didn't want the youngins to be exposed to anything improper)

Goldwatch- First Render
Here is my character "Goldwatch", there's a story behind the name. But to keep it simple...
...he is a former CEO of a major Record company, but after a few bad moves and poor money management he is now homeless and left with nothing but the goldwatch he bought when he first started making money. He refuses to sell it because of it's sentimental value.I've included my first render along with a early drawing of the character. He was modeled in Maya 2008.

Fur Ball [Progress Update]
Just wanted to give a quick update on my character "Fur Ball" . I have recently taken my base mesh I made in 3ds Max into Mudbox. As you can see from the image above I am trying to add some detail to the characters face.

New Color Palette?
I think I may have found the color palette for my character. Although his name is "Blu" I think that these colors work well together and are not often seen. As you can tell I once again used a Air Jordan shoe for inspiration, can you blame me...he's the best (Nacho Libre voice).

GD330 Final- Blu & Ray Gun 2400
So these two images above are the two that made my book for my GD330 final. As you can see neither is finished. So the reason for this post is that I plan to continue working on both of these models along with Fur Ball. I want to have these posted for future reference and to see how much I have improved. Any and all comments are welcomed, but if you feel the need to criticize at least be helpful and leave tips for improvement.
-Thanks,
Juan Ortiz

GD 330- Video Game Cover Art
Here is the cover art for my video game idea. After a long time without a title, I decided to go with "Spacejive". The name comes from a song by a rap artist named "Blu". Since the game takes place in outter space I felt it was a good fit. I also think that the name is a bit catchy and sort of funny...and yes I'm still in school.
What Time Is It?
It's 2:14am, and I've been in school since around 10:45am the day before. The only other person here is Robert Yi (Deathman 99) and he keeps talking about food, so now I'm tired and hungry. Robert I hate you. haha

GD 330- Map [Update]
This is a updated version of the map I posted a while back. I added a "indicator of scale" to the legend and I also cleaned up some of the edges.
GD 330- Character [Update]
So it's about to be 4 a.m. and I'm still up working on my project. The character has come along a lot better than i thought it would have. Still a lot of work to do, so that means no sleep for me.

GD 330- Character [Work in Progress]
So I haven't posted anything in a while so I thought I should give an update on the character I am modeling in 3ds Max. The image above is of the character's head, obviously it is not done and still being worked on. If anyone is wondering why half of the head is blue and the other half is gray, it's because I have mirrored half of the model.
Sidenote: In the background you can see the sketch I made of the character to use as reference.

GD 330- Gun Sketch
This is a gun sketch that I made for an upcoming project. For those of you that are into sneakers/kicks/shoes, as I am you will see that this gun was inspired by the Air Jordan 4.
